My Life as an Intern at We Love Mobile
I am Marie, and I am a part of the We Love Mobile team for a few months during this summer. I am a 23 year old French student and I am an intern in the agency. This work placement will allow me to complete my Master degree. I have been studying International Trade in Lyon and I would like to specialise in communication and marketing, so working in a mobile advertising agency like We Love Mobile is great experience. I would like to share my thoughts about my work here with you.
First, I have to say, that this work experience is very different from the work experience I had in France. But in a good way! In France, it is really hard to find a work placement in a field you are interested in, and finally, when you get one, the company does not care of you, and most of the time you are given the worst jobs to do. At We Love Mobile, so far I have responsibility for the competitor analysis, keeping the events calendar up-to-date and monitoring our SEO. I feel very involved. Also it’s great to see people motivated by their job, and to be working somewhere with a good atmosphere, where everyone brings fresh ideas to the office every day.
I have to say that being part of the new advertising revolution that is happening at the moment is really exciting and, for my part, it just makes me want to get up in the morning! Working in the newest advertising sector, and working in London is such an amazing thing for a French girl like me, and my friends are so jealous of me!!
In France, there is not much hype about mobile advertising, very few people have smart phones, and not many regularly access the mobile internet. Moreover, it still remains expensive, and the few SMS/MMS ads we receive in France are seen as intrusive advertising by most people. There are only a couple of French advertising agencies which specialise in mobile advertising. Most agencies are focused on above-the-line advertising with only a small part of their activities reserved for mobile advertising. So it is much more interesting for me to work in this field in a country where the industry seems to be increasing in size and possibilities all the time, and consumers seem to be much more receptive to mobile advertising.
I don’t think it’s an easy marketplace as there are many agencies in competition in the UK, and I can affirm that since I am working on a competitor analysis. It is really interesting to see how a company like We Love Mobile can differentiate itself from the others thanks to varied marketing strategies but, above all, thanks to the creativity and the talent brought by its team.
I have been here for 4 weeks and, from my outsider’s perspective, I can confidently say that I believe I can help We Love Mobile become one of the best agencies in the UK.

Hi Marie,
On your post you are stating that there is not a huge activity in France concerning M-advertising. Maybe there is a fair activity but it is obviously a lack of press coverage. May I suggest that you take a look at our Company Prim’Vision since we are currently developping a M-advertising platform with a different profiling approach compared with traditional technologies. Our platform does not require user profile on the server side although it can target the right audience when delivering the message, hence there is no intrusion, no privacy issue and full respect of legislation concerning use of private data (this last topic will be an important issue in the future due to tighter regulations). Should you find this interesting, I’d be happy to discuss this futher with you.
Ellen,
If this is also of interest for your intern, please feel free to contact me as well.
Rgds,
Mike
