Mobile Internet – Ad network reports massive growth

Earlier this month the BuzzCity mobile internet Ad Network revealed their latest stats. There are some surprises in the data; massive growth in mobile internet use in Egypt and Saudi Arabia, as well as some serious traffic in some less than high profile territories like Kenya. They reckon the growth is directly linked with changes in mobile operator business models, in particular around mobile data packages. It is also worth noting that growth is not restricted to ‘unwired’ mobile communities in developing countries, but is also occuring in North America, with both the USA and Canada showing a big leap in numbers.

The following statistics show advertising page views in the first quarter of 2008.

  1. Indonesia: 654 million (up 13328% on Q1 2007)
  2. India: 577 million (up 1522%)
  3. South Africa: 426 million (up 418%)
  4. USA: 132 million (up 917%)
  5. Kenya: 79 million (up 424%)
  6. Romania: 57 million (up 446%)
  7. Bangladesh: 53 million (up 305%)
  8. China: 37 million (up 6053%)
  9. Brunei: 35 million (up 221%)
  10. Pakistan: 35 million (up 814%)

At We Love Mobile, we’ve run some global mobile ad campaigns on this network over the past couple of months and can attest to significant volume being available. With strong creative, CTRs are also favourable compared to some of the long-tail mobile ad networks, and while the targeting is by no means ‘laser guided’, the social network based inventory on Buzzcity seems to attract users prepared to engage with mobile content and applications. A word of warning, if you want clicks to turn to revenue and acquisition, then you may actually get better returns in more mature markets. As always, horses for courses!
