Nokia N82 & Nokia Maps

Having left Orange recently, I discovered I was entitled to a handset upgrade. I decided to pick the Nokia N82. Mainly for it’s funky black design, but also for new features. It ships with A-GPS, which for those who don’t know, is Assisted GPS. This means you can use map software that allows your location to be discovered to the nearest few meters.

Having found my way from the office in London Fields to the Old Globe theatre (I pretended I didn’t know where this was) the other night, using Nokia maps and said A-GPS, I wanted to write a blog piece to wax lyrical about this service. So here goes.

Nokia Maps Loading Screen

The loading screen grabs your attention. You think, what is going to appear.

Maps1

The next screen allows me to locate my position.

Map2

My location is marked. Ok, so it’s not exactly my location. It is the road that runs parallel to the road I am on.

Map3

I can now chose to view the map in 3D.

Map4

Smart hey?

Map5

I’ve now entered my destination postcode and the route is calculated. I set off. I now turn on the navigation feature and a lady begins to talk to me. People on the bus think I am slightly strange.

Map6

The location is refreshed automatically and keeps up with the bus traveling stop, start all the way. I arrive safe and sound.

All in all, I think this is a great application that I will use more and more. Highly recommended. Just get it!
