Having recently got a new phone I thought I’d make use of the built in flash player and the accelerometer feature. The accelerometer measures acceleration and gravity induced reaction forces, in other words movement. Like the Nintendo Wii remotes but not quite as responsive.

I would imagine that all handsets would be shipping with one of these nifty little accelerometers in the not so distant future. In fact, I attended Over The Air 2008 (a 48 hour mobile development conference) and heard a little rumour that all new Sony Ericsson handsets will be shipping with them within 6 months. With the iphone, N95 and more recently the k850i having them it’s only a matter of time.

The K850i uses this functionality for its media player when viewing pictures. Turning the phone rotates the picture showing the image fullscreen depending on if the photo was taken portrait or landscape, reminiscent of the iphone. That’s it. It’s not utilised for any other function. There’s tons of stuff this could be used for. So, while at Over The Air I decided to take it upon myself to explore this! With a little imagination and creativity I came up with the babe wallpaper, one for the guys. Turn the phone upside down and see her dress drop away… we’ve all seen those seedy novelty pens you turn upside down and as if by magic the clothes disappear. Nice. Here it is, a mobile phone version.
